idea: the extinction of the banana. it should be in the style of shel silverstein. dark, morbid, but witty and fun. the extinction could be caused by a virus, or a genetic defect, or some sort of human-induced condition that made life on earth untenable for the banana

A yellow dream, a fruity grace,
The banana smiled on time and space.
A cheerful curve, a sunny hue,
A breakfast friend, forever true.

But shadows crept, a silent blight,
A whispered curse in fading light.
A tiny change, a hidden flaw,
Ignoring nature’s sacred law.

The plants grew weak, their leaves turned brown,
A mournful sigh swept through the town.
The sweetest fruit began to fade,
A golden memory, gently swayed.

No longer bold, no longer bright,
Just brittle husks in pale moonlight.
The monkeys wept, the children sighed,
A world bereft, where dreams had died.

We tried our best, with science keen,
To save the peel, the vibrant sheen.
But fate had dealt a cruel decree,
The banana vanished, you and me.

So raise a glass, a tear, a plea,
For what was lost for all to see.
A simple fruit, a joyful thing,
Now just a ghost, the sorrowing.
