The Algorithm's Wonder
idea: we need a christmas poem for the modern age. in the style of twas the night before christmas
Twas the Night Before the Algorithm
The reindeer grazed in fields of glowing light,
Beneath the stars that burned so sharp and bright.
The digital clocks ticked slow and deep,
While weary mortals lay asleep.
The snowflakes drifted, soft and crystalline,
Upon the panes of every window line.
In Sleigh and harness, sleek and finely spun,
Old Santa hitched his journey, one by one.
No soot he carried, just a gentle gleam,
A whispered magic in a waking dream.
For this year’s night brought shadows long and gray,
And worries built up at the close of day.
The city hummed with a restless sound,
Of screens alight upon the darkened ground.
The traffic flowed, a ceaseless, grinding stream,
And schedules shifted, chasing every gleam.
The algorithms spun their cryptic thread,
While busy thoughts within the houses spread.
But Santa paused, above the endless haze,
To seek the wonder in these modern days.
He looked upon the flickering blue light,
The tiny screens that banished darkest night.
He saw the children gazing at the feed,
And planted seeds of genuine need.
He knew the magic isn’t just in toys,
Nor bells that chime and banish winter joys;
It lives within the pixel’s soft array,
And finds its way to banish doubt away.
For true enchantment needs no wire or chain,
It follows pathways through the heart’s domain.
He sought the silence in the busy air,
The quiet wonder that is waiting there.
He found a memory of simple grace,
Reflected softly on each smiling face.
And saw the joy that doesn’t need a price,
A perfect rhythm and a sweet device.
He checked the listings, where the wishes lie,
Not just for trinkets, but for open sky;
For kindness shared and laughter truly free,
The greatest gifts are meant for you and me.
He packed no coal, no jingling silver bright,
But hope delivered through the fading light.
And as he sailed across the sleeping land,
With magic woven by a gentle hand,
He brought a blessing, warm and soft and true,
A Christmas spirit fresh and shining new.
For though the world is fast and ever bright,
There is still wonder in the darkest night.
