Starlight Explorers
idea: cavemen in space
The Star-Struck Ancients
In caverns deep where granite slept and sighed,
Where ancient shadows silently resided,
Lived tribes of men, with fur and calloused hand,
Who knew the hunt across the frozen land.
Their world was stone, their fire a burning friend,
Their lives defined by winter’s bitter end.
But one cold night, when fire cast its gleam,
A strange reflection broke the waking dream.
Through cracks within the ceiling, vast and black,
A shimmer came along the frozen track.
No earthly light, no sun they had known,
But silver dust upon a cosmic throne.
They crawled to edges where the darkness spun,
And saw the void, the journey just begun.
No cave mouth framed the sight of endless night,
But nebulae ablaze with stellar light.
The velvet black was slashed with diamond dust,
Where newborn suns in silent splendor thrust.
The cavemen gasped—a sound both raw and deep—
As secrets of the universe they keep
Were spilled before their primitive eyes,
Beneath the gaze of alien skies.
They saw the spheres, the distant burning gleams,
Awakening worlds beyond their waking dreams.
From rocky shelters, rough and fiercely made,
Awe and terror in their spirits played.
The stars were not mere pinpricks in the night,
But mighty oceans of eternal light.
Strange constellations wheeled in silent grace,
Reflecting wonder on a primal face.
One giant strode where shadows used to lie,
And wondered at the ships that drifted by.
No mammoth chased, no mammoth fear arose,
Only the quiet of the cosmic close.
They peered upon the vacuum, cold and wide,
Where silence reigned and deeper truths did hide.
Did gods reside in streams of burning gas?
Did phantom mountains stretch and swiftly pass?
The hunters paused, the shaman lowered low,
To ponder wonders where the currents flow.
Their ancient minds, so shaped by earth and snow,
Could grasp no limits where the cosmos grow.
They named the lights with guttural decree,
And whispered tales of what they longed to see.
Of distant beacons, brilliant, far away,
Where silent travelers journeyed day by day.
The primal fear gave way to sudden awe,
As mortal limits broke against the law.
No longer bound by cavern walls confined,
Their knowledge stretched to realms of humankind.
They learned that silence held a mighty sound,
And vastness reigned where earthly fears were drowned.
They touched the edge of infinity’s shore,
And found themselves explorers, wanting more.
So now they gaze, the dwellers of the deep,
Upon the gulf where cosmic wonders sleep.
The caveman sleeps beneath a stellar ray,
A bridge between the dark and brilliant day.
He carries starlight in his rugged soul,
A story written to make spirits whole.
